Artist Statement

As an engineer, scientist, and expert in digital manufacturing processes, Brett Pipitone creates work using modern maker-space tools and materials. Using work incorporating natural aging processes on metals and wood Pipitone is deepening his own understanding of the interplay between memories, nostalgia, and the impacts of technology on human relationships.

The Affable Automaton project uses the parasitic nature of the consumer tech landscape as a backdrop to discuss the patriarchal damage to men’s place in modern society. Drawing inspiration from life as a 90’s teenage hacker and an over consumption of counter-culture science fiction, aA pieces incorporate black-lights, florescent plastics, and interactive elements to achieve playful looking works that explore dark truths.
